Among the Pines: Maternity Wear

Rachel, from Among the Pines, is filling in for me today. She is pregnant with the sweetest little girl and is sharing her tips on maternity wear. And yes, I have dubbed myself an auntie. Thanks Rachel! xoxo

The best maternity wear is…menswear?

It’s not everyday that a girl gets to entirely recreate her wardrobe. But ever since my newly acquired
baby bump has made its appearance this is just the task I find before me.

I’ve always loved a classic look with lots of simple shapes, beautiful fabrics, and unassuming
accessories. Unfortunately, this season of maternity wear does not fit the above description. Instead
it’s all fuchsia and florals on cheap cotton with shocking cashmere price tags. This simply would not
do. I was faced with a decision: I could either never leave the house and take literally the saying ‘no
pants are the best pants’ or I could find an alternate solution. Fortunately, that solution was only a
closet door away. (Husband, you're the best.)

Once I had invested in a few maternity bottoms (although mens trousers are quite addicting once
you try them) and paired them with finds from B's closet, I felt I was finally ready to sport the bump
in style.Menswear

Here are some of my favorite menswear-turned-maternity stores:

Club Monaco. Owned by Ralph Lauren, it’s the cooler, younger brother of Polo.  They make all
their men’s sweaters from beautiful wools and cottons that don’t lose their splendor in the wash.
They always have fantastic sale items and it’s hard to leave empty-handed.  www.clubmonaco.com

Everlane. I find myself at least twice a week stealing my husband’s Everlane v-necks (shhh!) to wear
under my favorite cardigans and blazers.  Even though I have my fair share of their women’s tees in
my closet (the ‘Ryan’ cut is my favorite) I can’t help but enjoy the thicker material and array of colors
they offer in their men’s store.  www.everlane.com

Vintage oxfords at Goodwill: I love everything about oxford cloth—it’s weight and how it softens
over time, but especially how durable a fabric it is.  This makes it the perfect target for all your
secondhand shopping.  The older the better, and it never goes out of style.

Here are a few outfits featuring menswear.  (No baby bump required):

Darkwash jeans + men’s cashmere pullover + kitten heels + metallic cuff + deep nail polish and
even deeper lipstick = date night

black leggings + men’s button-up + ballet flats + slim gold accessories + favorite scarf + cardigan +
bright lipstick = everyday errands

Enjoy!

xx,
R + baby
